Celestron Starhopper Dobsonian Telescope
The Celestron Starhopper Dobsonian Telescope Series comes in four
different apertures, 6", 8", 10", and 12 inch. Dobsonian telescopes are
known for their amazing value in relation to their aperture size.
Celestron Starhopper Dobsonian are simple to view with. Just explore the
night sky by easily moving the tube up or down, and right or left, by hand.
The configuration used for this telescope is a Newtonian optical tube
mounted on an Altazimuth mount. For a more advanced model, read our Celestron Telescope CPC 8 review.
At the bottom of the Celestron Starhopper Dobsonian tube is a large
primary mirror which gathers light and focuses it onto a small secondary
mirror, that reflects the light out of the side of the tube and into the
eyepiece of the telescope.
Celestron has equipped the Starhopper Dobsonian telescope with a roller
track bearing on the azimuth surface offering dozens of support points for
smooth swivel motion. For proper balance and control in both the altitude
and azimuth it uses a variable tension clutch system.
Celestron has designed the 10" and 12" Starhopper Dobsonian with
built-in cooling fans in the rear cell to decrease cooling times. The 8",
10", and 12 inch telescopes come with a 2 inch focuser and 1.25 adapter. For
equal support of the primary mirror the 10" and 12" models use a 9-point
flotation mirror cell.
