New Hubble Space Telescope Images

Hubble Space Telescope images were first launched in 1990. Since then Hubble has given us many amazing images. Now 15 years later this space telescope is continuing to help prove the existence of dark energy. Plus trace gamma-ray bursts and distant galaxies.

To celebrate 15 years of Hubble's contributions to astronomy, amazing new space images will be revealed of a majestic spiral galaxy, filled with newborn stars. The telescopic image from Hubble of the spiral galaxy M51 is called the Whirlpool Galaxy.

The Whirlpool Galaxy has spiral features from curving arms, where newborn stars are located, older stars can be found in its yellowish central core. Located at the end of one of the spiral arms is an image of the Eagle Nebulae. The Hubble telescope reveals it as a tall, dense tower of gas.

These Hubble space telescope pics are 20 times bigger then a digital camera photo. Mural sized images taken by Hubble's advanced camera will be released at 100 museums, planetariums, and science centers across the U.S.

The M51 image is 4 foot by 6 foot and the Eagle Nebulae is 3 foot by 6 foot. They will be on display at all sites. To see a list of these sites go to Hubble's 15th Anniversary.
